The United States is deploying nearly 10,000 additional troops to the Middle East as tensions with Iran continue to escalate, even as President Donald Trump expressed optimism that the conflict could end soon.

According to reports, the deployment includes around 6,000 personnel aboard the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush and its accompanying strike group, along with approximately 4,200 Marines from the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group and the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

The additional forces are being sent to strengthen the US military presence in the region amid ongoing tensions linked to Iran’s nuclear programme and the US-led naval blockade targeting Iranian ports.

The move comes at a time when a fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran is nearing its deadline, with uncertainty over whether it will be extended.

While Trump has repeatedly indicated that the conflict could conclude soon, the troop deployment signals continued military preparedness. In recent remarks, he said the war “could be over very soon,” even as the Pentagon proceeded with expanding its presence in the region.

The buildup is part of a broader US strategy to maintain pressure on Iran following stalled diplomatic efforts. Previous negotiations between the two sides failed to produce an agreement, particularly over Tehran’s uranium enrichment programme and sanctions relief.

US military assets in the region have already been engaged in enforcing restrictions on maritime activity linked to Iran, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route.

The deployment is expected to enhance the US military’s ability to conduct sustained operations, including naval enforcement and potential rapid-response missions if the situation escalates further.

Iran, meanwhile, has warned that continued pressure and military actions could lead to retaliation, raising concerns about a wider regional conflict.

The latest troop movement underscores the ongoing uncertainty in the region, where diplomatic signals and military actions continue to move in parallel amid a volatile geopolitical situation.
