US President says Tehran wants a deal, signals fresh talks soon and leaves open possibility of travelling to Pakistan.

US President Donald Trump has said that the current ceasefire with Iran may not need to be extended, but warned that hostilities could resume if ongoing negotiations fail to produce an agreement.
Speaking to reporters in Washington, Trump said the need for an extension would depend entirely on the outcome of talks with Tehran.

“I don’t know that we’ll have to. Ideally, we wouldn’t, but if I needed to, I would,” Trump said.
The ceasefire is due to expire next week, but Trump indicated he believes a renewal may not be necessary if diplomatic momentum continues.
“I’m not sure it needs to be extended. Iran wants to make a deal, and we’re dealing very nicely with them,” he said.
At the same time, Trump made clear that the truce remains fragile and could collapse if negotiations break down.
“If there’s no deal, fighting resumes,” he said, underlining the high stakes surrounding the next phase of diplomacy.
Trump also suggested that another round of US-Iran talks could take place within days.
“Probably, maybe over the weekend,” he said when asked about the timeline for renewed discussions.
On whether he would travel to Pakistan, where earlier talks were reportedly held, Trump said he was open to the possibility if a breakthrough is reached.
“I would go to Pakistan. If the deal is signed in Islamabad, I might go,” he said.
Trump further said there are currently no plans to ease the blockade on Iranian ports, describing the measure as effective and routine.
“We’re doing very well with the blockade. It’s very routine for us,” he said.
