Hamas offers to release hostages and cede governance to technocrats, marking a dramatic shift in Middle East tensions.

US President Donald Trump on October 3 called on Israel to immediately stop its bombardment of Gaza, following Hamas’ unexpected signal of readiness for peace. The terror group partially accepted Trump’s Middle East peace framework, pledging to release hostages and hand over governance to a technocratic Palestinian administration.
“Based on the statement just issued by Hamas, I believe they are ready for a lasting PEACE. Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the hostages out safely and quickly! Right now, it’s far too dangerous to do that,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

The announcement marks a dramatic turnaround from earlier in the week, when Trump had set a firm deadline for Hamas to accept his plan, warning that “all hell will break out” if they refused. Now, the terror group has expressed gratitude to Arab and international mediators — including Trump — for efforts toward peace, while signaling that parts of the plan still require consultation.
Trump’s Gaza peace plan calls for an immediate ceasefire, withdrawal of Israeli forces from Palestinian territories, release of hostages, and the creation of a roadmap for a new Palestinian government. Hamas currently holds 48 hostages from the October 7, 2023 attacks, with 20 believed to be alive.
“This is not about Gaza alone. This is about long-sought PEACE in the Middle East,” Trump wrote, underscoring his vision of a broader regional resolution.
