Himachal to introduce 3-time attendance system in 150 CBSE government schools

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced a three-point attendance system for students and teachers in 150 government schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Under the new system, attendance will be recorded three times each school day: when students and teachers arrive in the morning, during the lunch break and at the time of departure, Sukhu said while chairing an Education Department meeting on Sept 1.

The state government will also introduce separate dress codes for teachers and students at these schools. The teachers' dress code will become mandatory from Oct 1, according to an official statement.

Teachers will receive one-time financial assistance of ₹5,000 to help them purchase the prescribed attire. The government will decide on the uniform for students within the next week, Sukhu said.

Around 1,200 teachers have already been appointed to the CBSE schools, while additional recruitment will be carried out in the coming period. Sukhu said the government is focused on improving the quality of education and expanding access for children, particularly those living in rural areas.

The state will allocate an additional ₹80 crore to upgrade infrastructure and improve facilities for students and teachers in the CBSE schools.

Sukhu said the measures are intended to strengthen the academic environment and ensure that students in rural parts of the state can access quality education closer to their homes.

He also instructed the Education Department to ensure that the announced measures are implemented effectively and that the functioning and facilities of the CBSE schools are improved continuously.
