Trump condemns Texas beheading of Indian-origin man, vows tougher immigration action

President Donald Trump condemned the brutal killing of Indian-origin Chandra Nagamallaiah in Dallas, Texas, calling it “terrible” and pledging a crackdown on undocumented immigrants with violent records.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the suspect, a 37-year-old Cuban national named Yordanis Cobos-Martinez “should never have been in our country” and vowed that “the time for being soft on these illegal immigrant criminals is over under my watch.”

Trump pledged that the suspect will be prosecuted “to the fullest extent of the law” and said the case highlights what he views as systemic failures in US immigration enforcement. “The time for being soft on these illegal immigrant criminals is over under my watch,” he wrote, signaling that his administration may pursue stricter policies for dealing with undocumented migrants who have prior criminal convictions.

Nagamallaiah, 50, was killed on Sep 12 at a Dallas motel where he lived with his wife and teenage son. The suspect, Cobos-Martinez attacked him with a machete after a dispute over a broken washing machine, decapitated him, and tried to hide the head in a dumpster. Officers arrested the suspect at the scene while he was still holding the weapon.

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed Cobos-Martinez was in the country illegally and had prior charges including child sexual abuse and vehicle theft. Federal officials stated that he had been released from detention after previous attempts to deport him failed because Cuba refused to accept his repatriation.

He now faces a first-degree murder charge and is being held without bond.

The killing has shocked the Indian diaspora in the United States and intensified debate over immigration enforcement. Indian consular officials in Houston are assisting the family, while local community leaders have urged a federal review of procedures that allowed Cobos-Martinez to remain in the country despite his record.
