Pakistan warns of imminent Indian strike, cites 'credible intelligence'

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated sharply on April 30 after Pakistan’s Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar accused India of preparing for a military strike within the next 24 to 36 hours.

Citing what he described as “credible intelligence,” Tarar alleged that India was planning cross-border military action against Pakistan, using the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, as a pretext. His remarks were issued late April 28 via a statement on social media platform X.

“We have credible intelligence that India intends to carry out military action against Pakistan in the next 24 to 36 hours on the pretext of baseless and concocted allegations related to the Pahalgam incident,” Tarar stated.

The warning comes in the wake of a brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam last week, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, most of them tourists. India has since launched a diplomatic blitz, briefing over 100 foreign missions in New Delhi and engaging multiple world leaders over what it alleges are clear cross-border linkages to the attack.

In a significant development earlier this week, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi authorized the military to determine the “mode, targets and timing” of the country’s response. According to official sources, Modi expressed “complete faith and confidence” in the armed forces, affirming India's “national resolve to deal a crushing blow to terrorism.”

Responding to the rising tensions, Pakistan has denied any involvement in the Pahalgam attack and proposed a joint investigation. “As a responsible state, Pakistan has open-heartedly offered a credible, transparent, and independent investigation by a neutral commission of experts,” Tarar added.

While both nations have exchanged diplomatic and rhetorical fire, the situation remains fluid and volatile, with regional observers and foreign governments closely monitoring developments for any signs of escalation.
