Iran vows harsh response after Israeli strike in Syria kills two IRGC generals

Tensions have escalated between Iran and Israel after the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus has resulted in the seven revolutionary guards, including two IRGC generals.

The strike occurred just days after Israeli air strikes in Syria's northern province of Aleppo.

Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warned on Wednesday that Israel "must be punished and will be punished” for the April 1 attack, days after one of his advisers said Israeli embassies are “no longer safe.”

The attack on the Iranian consulate led to the destruction of the building and casualties, with Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander in the elite Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), among those killed.

The strike in Damascus is the latest in a series of attacks on Iranian targets in Syria, with Israel accusing Iran of using the country as a base to launch attacks against Israel.

The incident has sparked outrage in Iran, with officials vowing a harsh response to the attack. The Israeli government has not yet commented on the incident, but the attack comes amid ongoing tensions between the two nations. The strike in Damascus can result in larger implications for the broader regional dynamics.

Meanwhile, the US has shown concern that Iran might target the country as part of a potential retaliation for Israel’s April 1.

US embassy in Israel on Thursday has issued travel advisory to its employees and their family members to restrict travel outside Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Be'er Sheva amid a looming Iranian threat after President Joe Biden said that Iran was threatening to launch a "significant attack in Israel," and vowed America's "ironclad" support for its ally.
