The Defense Ministry-backed module will feature in EVS, Social Science, and English textbooks to instill patriotism and civic duty among students.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is developing a dedicated module on Operation Sindoor for inclusion in school curricula from Classes 3 to 12, according to official sources.
The initiative is being developed in coordination with the Ministry of Defence and is aimed at highlighting the bravery and sacrifices of India's armed forces.
Operation Sindoor was a major tri-services mission launched in May 2024 to assist civilians affected by Cyclone Remal in the northeastern states. Over 1.7 lakh people were rescued, and more than 2,500 personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force were involved in the relief efforts.
The new school module will feature across subjects such as Environmental Studies (EVS), Social Science, and English. Officials noted that the aim is to instill a spirit of patriotism, civic responsibility, and respect for national service from an early age.
The plan aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which advocates for the integration of Indian values, traditions, and contributions into school education. The module is expected to include stories of rescue, interviews, visuals, and case studies from the operation.
A senior Defence Ministry official told The Hindu that the content will be age-appropriate and tailored to different grades, ensuring that the message is both accessible and engaging.
The NCERT is expected to finalize the draft in the coming months, with pilot testing likely to begin before the end of the academic year. Final approval will come from the Ministry of Education after inter-ministerial consultations.
