In a major strategic move at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg on November 22, India, Australia and Canada announced a new trilateral technology and innovation partnership designed to accelerate collaboration on critical and emerging technologies — particularly artificial intelligence (AI) and green-energy solutions.

The agreement was finalized during a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the sidelines of the summit. The new framework, branded the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership, aims to strengthen technological cooperation across three continents and create robust alternatives to existing global supply chains.

“This is a new trilateral technology and innovation partnership,” Modi posted on X, expressing confidence that the pact would “deepen collaboration between democratic partners across three continents and three oceans” and accelerate clean-energy progress and mass AI deployment. “We look forward to working together to guarantee a better future for the coming generations,” he added.

The initiative carries strategic weight as both Canada and Australia are members of the “Five Eyes” intelligence alliance, providing access to advanced technologies and shared research streams from the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand.

A statement issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs described the agreement as a commitment to expand cooperation on critical and emerging technologies while complementing existing bilateral mechanisms. The partnership places strong focus on green-energy innovation, critical-mineral supply chains and AI-driven solutions to improve citizens’ lives.

Officials from the three countries will meet in the first quarter of 2026 to drive implementation of the ACITI Partnership. The initiative also comes ahead of the AI Impact Summit, which India is set to host in February 2026 — a platform that may serve as the first major showcase of the trilateral alliance’s direction.
