A 21-year-old YouTuber Ishan Sharma, who recently traveled to the USA, posted on microblogging site X about the "biggest culture shock" he faced during his stay there. Ishan explained that he stayed at 3-star, 4-star and 5-star hotels during his trip but felt that they "just don't get hospitality."
An Indian YouTuber's post on social media about the kind of hospitality received at American hotels, including Caesars Palace (an iconic luxury hotel in Las Vegas), has recently gone viral where netizens are widely sharing their views on the stark difference in hospitality between the two nations.
A 21-year-old YouTuber Ishan Sharma, who recently traveled to the USA, posted on microblogging site X about the "biggest culture shock" he faced during his stay there. The post made on Aug 12 has gone viral and evoked sharp reactions and comments mostly from Indians.
Ishan explained that he stayed at 3-star, 4-star and 5-star hotels during his trip but felt that they "just don't get hospitality."
"My biggest culture shock — American Hotels. They just don't get hospitality. Funny how they ask for tips but won't even give complimentary water,” reads his post.
The Bengaluru-based YouTuber described his experience as a stark departure from the warmth and attentiveness he has come to expect from Indian hotels.
After checking in at 2 am at the Caesars Palace, he requested a glass of water. He was simply told to buy a 200 ml bottle for $14.99 (approx Rs 1200). The lack of complete empathy shocked him, he added.
Ceasars Palace is one of the most significant landmarks in Las Vegas which has over 3,500 guest rooms spread across six towers.
"And this is a $200 per night hotel! Complete lack of empathy. Unbelievable! Never expected this," he wrote.
Netizens in India have denounced American hotels for the lack of empathy and hospitality.
“Indian hotels are 1000 times better than European and American hotels. We get extra complimentary services, plus it's true that outside hotels don't even provide water bottles daily,” said an X user in his reaction to Ishan’s post.
Another user responded to Ishan’s post saying, “Agreed, Indian hospitality is a notch above American. They have way less help and charge for everything they can,”
Ishan's post has clocked over 276K views so far and counting. Several users commented about the standard of most American hotels while others lauded Indian hotels and hospitality.
“Americans come to Asia for hospitality! You will get best loyalty recognition in SE Asia & India only and it is not limited to Taj,” Kashif Ansari, X user posted, adding, “Marriott, ITC, Accor are also there & Hyatt is the best in terms of loyalty recognition.”
The Bengaluru-based YouTuber has over 1.4 million subscribers on the platform and mostly creates travelogues.
