In a bid to improve traffic management in the popular coastal destination, Goa recently implemented a QR code-based system becoming the first state in India to do so. The initiative, launched by the state police, aims to streamline road checks and enhance the overall experience for visitors, officials said.

Under this system, once a tourist’s vehicle documents are verified, a unique QR code is generated and sent via SMS. The code remains valid for 12 hours, allowing travelers to move freely without repeated document inspections. If stopped by traffic officials again, tourists can simply present the QR code, which, when scanned, confirms prior verification and approval.

Goa Police have issued 4,000 QR codes to tourists so far helping to minimize delays and disruptions. The system is part of the Quick Pass mobile application, developed by the Goa Police to improve traffic compliance and reduce inconvenience for motorists.

“Goa Police have introduced the Quick Pass mobile application for traffic officials, designed to streamline traffic compliance and reduce inconvenience for motorists. This innovative app generates a QR code sent as an SMS to rule-abiding commuters. It is valid for 12 hours.” said Crime Branch SP Rahul Gupta.

“If a traveler is stopped for a routine check, they can show the QR code instead of undergoing another round of verification. This not only ensures hassle-free movement but also strengthens compliance with traffic regulations,” he added.

The Quick Pass app comes equipped with advanced features such as geotagging, hotspot mapping of traffic check zones, and real-time data analysis. These capabilities will help senior officials strategize traffic management more effectively, improving both road safety and efficiency.

“This is the first such app to be developed by any state in the country. It will help improve the tourist experience in Goa,” Gupta added.

By pioneering this system, Goa is setting a precedent for other states to adopt technology-driven solutions for better traffic control and visitor convenience. With smoother vehicle checks, tourists can now explore Goa’s scenic landscapes with fewer disruptions, making it an even more enjoyable and hassle-free destination.
