The union government’s approval of ₹140 crore will help the state establish two new colleges, expanding healthcare education opportunities and strengthening the state’s focus on Ayurveda and homeopathy programs.

Tripura is set to expand its medical education infrastructure with the establishment of two new institutions, following the union government’s approval of ₹140 crore for an Ayurveda medical college and a homeopathy medical college.
Currently, the northeastern state has three medical colleges, including the Agartala Government Medical College.

The addition of these institutions is expected to provide more opportunities for students pursuing healthcare education and strengthen the state’s traditional medicine sector.
In a Facebook post, Chief Minister Manik Saha said, “The Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, has sanctioned ₹140 cr for establishing Ayurveda Medical College and Homoeopathy Medical College in Tripura.”
According to the CM, a high-level meeting was held to finalize the roadmap, focusing on fast-tracking preparations so that the colleges can start functioning from the next academic session.
With this financial support, Tripura aims to bolster its academic facilities in traditional medicine, benefiting students seeking specialized training while contributing to the broader healthcare ecosystem.

Senior officials have reviewed the requirements and outlined initial steps to ensure timely progress. Saha described these efforts as part of a larger strategy to improve access to quality medical education across the state.
Expressing gratitude for the central government’s support, the Chief Minister added, “Grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare J P Nadda ji, and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH Shri Prataprao Yadav ji, for significant support to strengthen healthcare and education in the northeastern state.”
The sanction is expected to accelerate Tripura’s efforts to expand medical education and promote traditional healthcare systems through two dedicated institutions.
