He is also mandated to enable his location services whenever he travels outside the national capital region.
AAP leader Sanjay Singh
Sanjay Singh, a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has been instructed by Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court to hand over his passport. This comes as the court grants him bail in a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in liquor policy.
The court was requested by the counsel for AAP MP Sanjay Singh not to impose conditions requiring prior permission before leaving Delhi-NCR, citing Singh's role as a political leader and the ongoing election season. However, the court ruled that Singh must provide his travel itinerary before departing from Delhi-NCR.
In addition, Singh has been directed to activate his mobile's 'location on' feature whenever he travels outside the national capital region.
The court has granted bail to the AAP MP upon the submission of a bail bond worth Rs 2 Lakh and an equivalent surety. The surety bond was provided by Sanjay Singh's wife.
During the hearing, the special counsel for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) mentioned a Supreme Court condition prohibiting Sanjay Singh from discussing this case with the media.
Sanjay Singh, who was arrested by the central investigative agency in October of the previous year, was granted bail on Tuesday. He is the first senior AAP leader to receive bail in the liquor policy case.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his former deputy Manish Sisodia remain incarcerated in relation to the same case.
In the meantime, the Delhi High Court is set to hear Kejriwal's petition today, challenging his arrest by the ED on March 21. The Delhi CM has also contested his remand and is seeking immediate bail.
However, the investigative agency has objected to his bail application, alleging that the AAP was the primary beneficiary of the scam and labeling Kejriwal, who also serves as the party's national convenor, as the mastermind behind it.
