Congress President Mallikarjun on Friday said that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are not just any election, but a crucial step towards “safeguarding democracy from the grip of autocracy” as the second phase of General Elections commences.

Mallikarjun, the President of Congress, emphasized on Friday that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are not just a regular political event, but a significant move to “shield democracy from the grasp of autocracy” as the second phase of the General Elections kicks off. He also encouraged citizens to participate in the electoral process in large numbers.
Mallikarjun wrote on X, “Remember, fellow Indians, the essence of our Constitution should resonate in your hearts and minds when you cast your vote. This is not just any election. It’s a fight to preserve Democracy from the threat of dictatorship.”

He also warned voters from 89 parliamentary constituencies across 13 states and Union Territories not to be misled by any “deceptive strategies and falsehoods”. He said, “Ensure your vote makes a difference. It has the potential to transform the lives of 140 crore Indians. Envision a future where Justice, Freedom, Equality, and Liberty are assured. A future where inclusive growth and transformative policies are guaranteed.”
Welcoming first-time voters, the Congress leader said, “To all the first-time voters, clear the confusion and ignore the noise, for you are the true agents of change and I welcome each one of you to this democratic movement.”
He urged everyone to come out and vote in large numbers. In a post on X, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wrote, “Today marks the second phase of this historic election that will determine the country’s destiny. Your vote will decide whether the next government will represent a handful of billionaires or 140 crore Indians.”

He added, “Therefore, it’s every citizen’s responsibility today to step out of their homes, become a defender of the Constitution, and vote to safeguard democracy.”
Echoing similar thoughts, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stated that this election is about preserving democracy and the Constitution. She wrote on X, “This election is about protecting the nation’s democracy and the Constitution. I urge you to vote in large numbers, vote based on your concerns, and establish a government that works solely for you.”
The second phase of the Lok Sabha elections commenced at 7 am across 1.67 lakh polling stations, covering 89 parliamentary constituencies spread across 13 States/Union Territories.
