Voters queue up outside a polling booth in Kondagaon as they await their turn to cast a vote in the first phase of Assembly elections

The first phase of the Lok Sabha 2024 elections commenced today, marked by reports of unrest in West Bengal and an explosion in Chhattisgarh. The BJP has accused Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers of stone-throwing in Chandamari to deter voters, while the TMC has countered with allegations of voter intimidation by BJP members in Begarkata. As of 10 am, both parties have filed over two dozen complaints each with the Election Commission, primarily concerning the Cooch Behar Lok Sabha seat.
In Chhattisgarh's Maoist-affected Bastar region, a Barel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) cell explosion occurred approximately 500 meters from a polling booth in Bijapur this morning. The blast resulted in injuries to a security personnel member involved in area domination exercises.

Following weeks of intense campaigning, the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections have officially begun. The first phase involves 102 parliamentary constituencies across 21 states and Union territories. Voting started at 7 am and is expected to continue until around 6 pm. The vote counting is scheduled for June 4.
