To date, Kejriwal has not complied with eight such summonses in the excise policy matter, dismissing them as illegitimate.
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal did not attend the scheduled Enforcement Directorate (ED) inquiry on Monday, concerning a case of money laundering associated with the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).
The ruling party of Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has declared the summons to be "unlawful" and has accused the central government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), of misusing the ED to pursue political vendettas against Kejriwal.
The ED's call for Kejriwal's interrogation on the 18th of March pertains to a second investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, involving alleged financial discrepancies within the DJB. Kejriwal, 55, who also serves as the national convenor for the AAP, has previously been summoned in a separate case related to the Delhi excise policy.
To date, Kejriwal has not complied with eight such summonses in the excise policy matter, dismissing them as illegitimate. The latest notice, marking the ninth, mandates his presence for an ED interrogation scheduled for March 21.
