Legislative party meeting to precede ceremony; PM Narendra Modi, NDA leaders and a full council of ministers expected at high-profile event.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced that the swearing-in of its new government in West Bengal will take place on May 9 at the iconic Brigade Parade Ground, setting the stage for a major political event in the state capital Kolkata.
State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya said the ceremony will begin at 10 a.m., a day after the party convenes its legislative meeting to elect its leader formally. The meeting is expected to finalize the Chief Minister’s face and clear the way for government formation.

“The legislative party will meet tomorrow evening, and the oath ceremony is scheduled for May 9 at Brigade Parade Ground,” Bhattacharya told reporters.
According to party leaders familiar with the preparations, the event is expected to draw top leadership from across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend, along with senior figures from the National Democratic Alliance, Union ministers and chief ministers from BJP-ruled states.
Around two dozen ministers are expected to be sworn in alongside the chief minister, indicating a full-fledged cabinet formation on the same day. The ceremony is being planned on a large scale, with thousands of party workers and supporters expected to gather at the central Kolkata venue, which has historically hosted some of the state’s biggest political rallies.
Organisational teams have begun coordinating logistics, security arrangements and crowd management as the party prepares to mark its entry into governance in a politically crucial state. The announcement has intensified activity across party ranks, while opposition groups are also closely tracking the developments.
The May 9 ceremony is expected to formally usher in a new administration in West Bengal, with the BJP aiming to signal both political consolidation and administrative readiness through a high-visibility public event.
