The incident took place on the night of June 17 when Beeda Madhuri, daughter of Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao, allegedly ran over a 24-year-old man sleeping on a pavement near Besant Nagar in Chennai.

In yet another incident of high-profile hit-and-run case, the daughter of one of the MP's of Andhra Pradesh's YSRCP, who was arrested for allegedly running her BMW over a man sleeping on pavement in Chennai, was released on station bail on the evening of June 19, according to media reports.
The incident took place on the night of June 17 when Beeda Madhuri, daughter of Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao, allegedly ran over a 24-year-old man sleeping on a pavement near Besant Nagar in Chennai.
The victim, identified as Surya, was allegedly drunk and lying on the roadside near a pavement in Chennai's Besant Nagar area.
Madhuri, who was driving the car along with her friend failed to notice him. She was released on bail in police station itself after getting arrested.
A video of an altercation between Madhuri's friend and locals have emerged post incident. In the clip, she was heard telling them that they had called for an ambulance to take Surya to the hospital.
After making the call, they allegedly left the spot as the locals were getting agitated. Surya, who was rushed to the hospital by the locals succumbed to his injuries.
Officials at the Chennai police tracked down the MP's daughter and her friend using the number from which they called for the ambulance.
A case was filed under IPC section 304 (a) (causing death by negligence) based on the complaint given by Surya’s wife Vinitha following which, Madhuri was arrested and released on station bail by the police on Tuesday.
The police also discovered the car involved in the accident was registered in Puducherry and belonged to the BMR (Beeda Masthan Rao) Group.
The BMR Group, associated with him, is famous in the seafood industry. He was elected as a Rajya Sabha MP in 2022 and has previously served as an MLA.
