Lal Krishna Advani, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former Deputy Prime Minister, has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.

The 96-year-old was hospitalized late at night on June 26.

According to sources, Advani's condition is stable, and he is currently under observation.

According to PTI, "He is stable and under observation."

He is reportedly being treated by doctors in the Department of Urology after his admission to the former private unit of AIIMS.

The medical team at the hospital, including specialists from various fields, is closely monitoring his health.

However, specific details about his ailment have not been disclosed.

Advani's daughter, Pratibha Advani, was seen with him during a media interaction following the Government of India's announcement of the Bharat Ratna for LK Advani.

He was recently awarded the Bharat Ratna by President Draupadi Murmu on March 30, 2024.

Born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi (now in Pakistan), Advani joined the RSS as a Swayamsevak in 1942.

He served as the BJP National President from 1986 to 1990, again from 1993 to 1998, and from 2004 to 2005, making him the longest-serving President in the party's history since its founding in 1980.

During his nearly three-decade-long parliamentary career, LK Advani first held the position of Home Minister and later served as the Deputy Prime Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's cabinet from 1999 to 2004.

In the lead-up to the 2009 elections, Advani, then the Leader of the Opposition, was widely regarded as the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate. On December 10, 2007, the BJP Parliamentary Board officially declared him as their candidate for the 2009 general elections.

However, after the Congress party and its allies won the 2009 elections, Advani stepped aside, allowing Sushma Swaraj to become the Leader of the Opposition in the 15th Lok Sabha.

The hospitalization of the BJP veteran, known for his significant contributions to Indian politics, has drawn considerable attention.

Further updates on his health are awaited as the medical team continues their assessment.
