Murty took the oath of the office in a ceremony held at Parliament House, administered by Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar with her husband, Infosys co-founder N R Narayana Murthy, by her side.
Philanthropist and author Sudha Murty, known for her extensive work in children's literature and her leadership at the Infosys Foundation, was inducted as a member of the Rajya Sabha on International Women's Day.
In a ceremony held at Parliament House, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar administered the oath of office to Murty, with her husband, Infosys co-founder N R Narayana Murthy, by her side. The event was also attended by Piyush Goyal, the Leader of the House.
At 73, Murty's achievements span various fields, including her notable contributions to Kannada and English literature, for which she has received accolades such as the Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar, and national honors including the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan.
A trailblazer in her own right, Murty was the first female engineer at TELCO. She is also credited with providing the initial funding for Infosys, a global IT powerhouse valued at over USD 80 billion today.
Murty's family ties extend to the political sphere, with her daughter Akshata married to the current British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.
