Soldier injured in terror attack near Jammu army base

The terrorists fired from a distance between 10 to 10:30, according to defense spokesperson Lt. Col. Suneel Bartwal.

“The army base has been sealed for any movement. A search operation is underway to track down the terrorists,” he added.

The attack near the army base barely comes a few days after the security forces shot dead three terrorists in two separate gunfights near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district.

JeM (Jaish-e-Mohammad) terrorists had attacked the Sunjawan military camp in Jammu the killing six soldiers, and a civilian in Feb 2018.

Three terrorists were also killed in retaliatory action by the army. At least 20 people, including soldiers and civilians, were also injured in the 2018 attack.

Meanwhile, a massive search operation is underway in Rajouri district to track down terrorists presumed to be hiding in the Lathi area. The operation was launched in the general area of the village Kheri Mohra Lathi and Danthal area on the Sep 1 evening after intelligence inputs suggested the movement of terrorists in the area.

The infiltration attempts along the LoC and encounters between security forces and terrorists have taken place in run-up to the assembly polls beginning Sep 18.

The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly polls will be held in three phases till Oct 1, according to the Election Commission of India.

At least five personnel and seven civilians have died in terror attacks in Kashmir, while 14 security personnel and 11 civilians have died in separate gunfights in the Jammu region in recent weeks.
