The anti-terror operations were launched almost simultaneously following intelligence inputs about the infiltration by terrorists in border areas of Tanghdar and Machil during the intervening night of Aug 28-29.
While one terrorist was killed in the Tangdhar area, the other two were reportedly gunned down in the Machhal area of bordering Kupwara district.
“Based on intelligence inputs regarding likely infiltration bids, a Joint anti-infiltration Operation was launched by #IndianArmy & @JmuKmrPolice during the intervening night of 28-29 Aug 24 in general area Tangdhar, Kupwara. One terrorist is likely to have been neutralized. The operation is in progress,” the army wrote on X.
“Based on intelligence inputs concerning likely infiltration bids, a Joint Operation was launched by #IndianArmy & @JmuKmrPolice during the intervening night of 28-29 Aug 24 in general area Machhal, Kupwara.” It added.
Suspicious movement was observed in bad weather and the troops engaged in firing. Two terrorists are reportedly killed in this ongoing operation, according to the army.
Pertinently, the operations are still ongoing in twin border towns amid bad weather in border towns.
Meanwhile, a search operation is underway in Rajouri district of J&K following an exchange of firing between terrorists and security forces on Aug 28, officials said.
The operation erupted in Kheri Mohra Lathi and Danthal areas late evening. "Contact was established with terrorists at about 11:45 pm on Aug 28 during the search operation, which is still underway," police said in a statement.
