A new wave of violence hit Manipur’s Bishnupur district on September 6, with suspected militants launching a rocket attack that damaged local infrastructure but fortunately left no injuries.
The rockets, fired from elevated areas in Churachandpur district, targeted the residential community of Tronglaobi, a village situated about 45 kilometers from Imphal.
Police officials estimate the rockets' range to be over 3 kilometers, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing unrest in the region.
The attack damaged two structures: a community hall and an unoccupied room, although there were no reported casualties.
Following the assault, militants also opened fire toward the Bishnupur area, which prompted a strong retaliation by security forces stationed nearby.
This is not an isolated incident. Just the night before, residents of Kumbi village, located a few kilometers from Tronglaobi, were alarmed by the presence of low-flying drones, spotted less than 100 meters above the ground.
The sighting of these drones added to the increasing tension in the area, as residents fear further violence. The authorities are working diligently to stabilize the situation and maintain order.
The series of attacks in Manipur has raised concerns about the safety of local communities, with many calling for enhanced security measures.
The region has been a hotspot for insurgent activity, particularly in areas with geographical challenges such as hilly terrains, making it difficult for security forces to control militant movements effectively.
As violence persists, local authorities and law enforcement agencies are on high alert, closely monitoring the situation to prevent further escalation.
With drones and long-range rocket attacks becoming increasingly frequent, many fear that the violence in Manipur may intensify, putting more civilians at risk.
