Patna court grants Khan Sir anticipatory bail: Here's what happened

A Patna court on July 13 granted anticipatory bail to educator Faisal Khan, widely known as Khan Sir, and three members of his coaching institute staff in connection with a firing incident that took place at his institute in June. The order protects them from arrest while the police investigation continues.

The case arose from an incident on the night of June 2, when Khan Sir's coaching institute in Patna's Musallahpur Haat area allegedly came under attack.

According to Khan Sir, a group of people vandalised the premises, pelted stones and opened fire. Police subsequently registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.

As the probe progressed, investigators examined CCTV footage, videos and other evidence collected from the scene. The scope of the investigation later widened, leading to the inclusion of Khan Sir's name in the FIR registered at Kadamkuan police station.

His security personnel were also booked, with two bodyguards being sent to judicial custody over allegations that shots were fired during the incident.

The dispute is also linked to an ongoing rivalry between Khan Sir's coaching institute and another coaching centre run by educator Roshan Anand.

Court proceedings and police investigations have referred to tensions between the two institutes over student enrolment, examination results and claims regarding successful candidates, which eventually escalated into a legal dispute.

Following the registration of the case, Khan Sir approached the court seeking anticipatory bail. In June, the court granted him interim protection from arrest while hearing his plea.

That protection was extended multiple times as hearings were adjourned and the matter remained pending before the district court.

The court was initially expected to decide the anticipatory bail plea on July 10. However, the order was deferred because the district judge was on leave, with the matter rescheduled for July 13 after arguments had already concluded.

On July 13, the Patna court granted anticipatory bail to Khan Sir and three staff members, providing them protection from arrest in the case.

The order does not amount to an acquittal, and the investigation into the firing incident will continue in accordance with law.
