The scheme supports eligible students from specified communities with tuition, living expenses, airfare and medical insurance, subject to academic qualifications, admission requirements and an annual ₹8 lakh income ceiling.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has opened applications for the National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) 2026-27 for eligible students planning to pursue master's and PhD programs at universities outside India.
The scheme provides financial assistance to students from specified disadvantaged communities and covers major expenses associated with higher education abroad, including tuition fees, living costs and airfare.

Students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, landless agricultural laborers and traditional artisan families can apply under the scheme.
Applicants must meet the prescribed academic, age, income and admission requirements. Candidates generally need to have secured at least 60% marks or an equivalent grade in their qualifying examination.
For master's programs, applicants must hold the required bachelor's degree. Those applying for PhD programs must have the prescribed master's qualification.
The scholarship has an annual family income limit of ₹8 lakh from all sources. Applicants must also meet other applicable age and category-related conditions under the scheme.
Selected students can receive financial assistance for tuition fees, maintenance expenses, airfare and medical insurance. The scholarship may also cover contingency costs and other approved academic expenses.
Eligible candidates must apply online through the National Overseas Scholarship portal. Applicants need to register first and submit their personal, academic and financial details through the online application.
Candidates must also provide details of the overseas university and admission offer, wherever required, and upload the prescribed supporting documents.
Applicants should verify the information and documents before submitting the form. After submission, candidates should retain the acknowledgment for future reference.
The National Overseas Scholarship is intended to help eligible students pursue higher education abroad by providing financial assistance for approved academic and living expenses.
