The fire broke out in the ICU of a private hospital in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district, triggering a rescue operation and raising fresh concerns about fire safety in healthcare facilities.

At least four people were killed and several others injured after a massive fire broke out at a private hospital in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district in the early hours of June 4, officials said.
The blaze erupted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Prasad Hospital, prompting emergency evacuation efforts and a large-scale rescue operation.

According to officials, the fire spread rapidly through parts of the hospital, causing panic among patients, attendants and staff. Firefighters and local authorities rushed to the scene after receiving information about the incident and worked to bring the blaze under control.
Authorities confirmed that four people lost their lives in the incident. Several patients who sustained injuries or were affected by smoke inhalation were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Some patients were reported to be in critical condition.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been officially established. However, preliminary reports indicated that the blaze may have originated in the ICU section of the hospital. Investigators are examining whether an electrical fault or other technical failure may have triggered the incident.
The tragedy has once again drawn attention to fire-safety preparedness in hospitals and healthcare facilities. In recent years, several deadly hospital fires across India have raised concerns about emergency evacuation systems, electrical safety standards and compliance with fire-safety norms.
Officials said a detailed investigation has been ordered to determine the circumstances that led to the fire and whether all mandatory safety measures were in place at the facility. The identities of the deceased were being verified, and authorities were in the process of informing their families.
District administration officials are monitoring the situation and overseeing treatment arrangements for the injured. Further details are expected as investigators complete their assessment of the site and collect evidence related to the incident.
