After a hiatus of over two and a half years, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) Standing Committee held its first meeting under chairperson Satya Sharma, a BJP councillor, clearing 25 proposals pivotal to civic management and infrastructure.
Key approvals included procurement of Diflubenzuron larvicide for mosquito control ahead of monsoon, extensions of security and housekeeping contracts in city hospitals, as well as layout plan revisions for prominent institutions like SRCC, St Stephen’s College, and a girls' hostel block .

The committee also extended a 10% property tax rebate until July 31 .
Projects related to waste management in Shahdara, mechanical road sweepers, and pumps to tackle monsoon flooding were prioritised. Meanwhile, several larger infrastructure initiatives—such as multilevel parking and waste-to-energy facilities—were deferred.
Leader of Opposition Ankush Narang (AAP) criticized the decision to bar media from the meeting, calling it a breach of transparency norms.
Councillors raised concerns over sanitation budgets, illegal parking, and open drains. Officials reported desilting of over 156,000 MT of silt, surpassing targets ahead of monsoon.
Committee chair Satya Sharma reassured members that corrective steps would be taken swiftly and gave directives to expedite implementation across zones.
