India clarifies attaché’s comments on Operation Sindoor were misrepresented

India’s Embassy in Indonesia has issued a clarification stating that recent media reports distorted comments made by Defence Attaché Captain Shiv Kumar regarding Operation Sindoor, the early May Indian military strike into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

The embassy, speaking through its official X account, rejected the portrayal of Captain Kumar’s remarks as claiming that the Indian Air Force experienced losses of fighter jets due to political constraints.

Instead, it said that media outlets “quoted out of context” his presentation at the Universitas Dirgantara Marsekal Suryadarma, which focused on India’s measured military response under civilian political leadership and highlighted a non-escalatory approach.

“His remarks have been quoted out of context and the media reports are a mis‑representation of the intention and thrust of the presentation,” the embassy said.

The embassy reinforced that Captain Kumar clarified Indian armed forces operate under civilian control, contrasting them with some neighbouring countries.

He had described the goal of Operation Sindoor as targeting terror infrastructure, not an escalation into wider military confrontation.

Earlier coverage, some reports suggested, sensationalised his remarks by implying fighter-jet losses were due to civilian “political constraints.”

But the embassy firmly rejected this interpretation, highlighting that the attaché emphasized strategic restraint within a legally guided political-military framework.
