Helicopters were deployed to control a forest fire near the Kasauli Air Force Station in Himachal Pradesh as authorities battled flames spreading through dry vegetation in the hilly region.

A forest fire that broke out near the Kasauli Air Force Station in Himachal Pradesh triggered a major firefighting operation on Wednesday, with helicopters deployed to carry out aerial water drops as flames spread through nearby forest areas.
Visuals from the area showed thick smoke rising from forested hills while helicopters repeatedly splashed water over burning sections to prevent the fire from moving closer to sensitive defence infrastructure.

Officials said teams from the forest department, local administration and defence authorities were involved in the containment effort.
Authorities said the blaze spread rapidly because of dry vegetation, rising temperatures and strong winds common during the summer season in Himachal Pradesh.
Forest fires frequently occur across hill states during peak summer months when pine needles, dry grass and low moisture levels create highly flammable conditions.
Officials have not yet reported any casualties or damage to the Air Force Station.
The extent of forest damage is still being assessed.
The deployment of helicopters indicated concerns that the fire could spread toward strategically important areas near the Air Force facility.
Aerial firefighting operations are generally used in difficult terrain where ground teams face challenges accessing steep or heavily forested sections.
Authorities said efforts were focused on creating containment lines and preventing the blaze from expanding further into surrounding forest regions.
Himachal Pradesh has witnessed repeated forest fire incidents in recent years, particularly during dry summer periods.
Environmental experts have previously linked rising fire frequency to prolonged dry spells, increasing temperatures and accumulation of inflammable forest litter.
Large fires can damage biodiversity, wildlife habitats and air quality while also threatening nearby settlements and infrastructure.
Several north Indian states, including Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, routinely face seasonal wildfire risks between April and June.
Officials said monitoring and firefighting operations near Kasauli were continuing.
