With the extension, the draft electoral roll will now be released on December 16, while the final roll is scheduled for publication on February 14, 2026.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the deadline for voters to submit their enumeration forms under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) by one week. Electors across 12 states and Union Territories—including Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal—can now submit their forms until December 11, instead of the earlier deadline of December 4.
With the revised timeline, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will continue to collect and upload the forms onto the EC’s ECINet portal throughout the extended period. As a result, the draft electoral roll will now be published on December 16 rather than December 9. Individuals who submit their enumeration forms by the new deadline will be included in the draft list.

Consequently, the final electoral roll—used for all electoral processes—will be released on February 14, 2026, pushing the earlier publication date of February 7 by one week. In its communication to Chief Electoral Officers, the ECI stated that this updated schedule replaces the one issued on October 27.

While the Commission has not provided an official reason for the extension, the sheer scale of the exercise may be a contributing factor. According to recent figures, enumeration forms have already reached 99.53% of the 51 crore electors involved in this round of SIR, with 78.97% of the forms digitised.
The nationwide SIR exercise marks a significant shift from the traditional annual and pre-election Special Summary Revisions. Instead of incremental updates, SIR involves rebuilding electoral rolls from scratch, using the reference point of each state’s last intensive revision—many of which took place in the early 2000s. The first phase in Bihar earlier this year saw a 6% decrease in the number of registered electors, largely due to the removal of deceased, relocated or ineligible individuals.
The ECI intends to undertake the revision for the remaining states and UTs in subsequent phases. The ongoing SIR is viewed as a major effort to improve accuracy, reduce duplication, and strengthen the integrity of India’s electoral records ahead of upcoming election cycles.
