The Court of Additional Sessions Judge has framed charges against three individuals implicated in the murders of gangster Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf. The accused, currently detained in Chitrakoot jail, appeared before the court via video conferencing.
Following the framing of charges, Additional Sessions Judge Dinesh Gautam set May 2 as the date for recording evidence. District government counsel (criminal), Gulab Chandra Agrahri, represented the prosecution.

On July 13, 2023, the Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed to probe this murder case, submitted a charge sheet against three assailants accused of fatally shooting Atiq Ahmad, a gangster-turned-politician, and Ashraf on April 15, 2023. The accused named in the charge sheet are Lavlesh Tiwari, 22, Mohit Singh, also known as Shani, 23, and Arun Maurya, 18.
The SIT submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Judicial Magistrate after completing its investigation under Section 302 (murder) and several other sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act. At one point, the SIT team had taken the trio into police custody to interrogate them about the murders of Atiq and Ashraf and gather all possible evidence.
The accused allegedly murdered the brothers on the night of April 15 while they were being transported for a medical examination at Colvin hospital in Prayagraj, a mandatory legal procedure.
