The latest report shows a significant surge in women’s job applications, highlighting their growing role in India’s workforce alongside freshers and regional diversification.

Women made remarkable strides in India’s job market in 2024, accounting for 2.8 crore job applications out of a total of seven crore, marking a notable 20 percent increase from 2023.
This data comes from the "India at Work 2024" report, conducted by job platform Apna.co, which sheds light on the evolving dynamics of the country's employment landscape.

The report indicates that the total number of job applications, which stands at seven crore, represents a 25 percent year-on-year growth, with women and youth driving much of this surge. "Women contributed 2.8 crore job applications out of a total seven crore.
Tier 1 cities like Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, and Mumbai led this surge with 1.52 crore applications, while Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities such as Jaipur, Lucknow, and Bhopal contributed 1.28 crore, marking a significant rise in opportunities beyond metro hubs," the report stated.
In addition to the rise in job applications, the report also highlighted a 28 percent increase in the median salaries of women compared to 2023, underscoring their growing economic empowerment.
Women are excelling in various industries, including healthcare, hospitality, retail, and e-commerce, and are also taking on unconventional roles in fields like field sales, logistics, and security services.
"Applications for senior and managerial roles surged by 32 percent, signaling women’s growing influence in shaping India’s new-age workforce," the report added.
This data reflects the changing gender dynamics in the workforce, with women making significant strides into leadership and management positions.
The report also noted an impressive rise in applications from freshers, with a 27 percent year-on-year increase, totaling over two crore applications.
Urban centers like Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad contributed 60 lakh applications, while regions such as Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar added 82 lakh applications, highlighting a more balanced regional distribution.
This growth in job applications indicates a positive shift in India’s employment landscape, with women playing a pivotal role in the transformation of the nation’s workforce.
