The first Practice School cohort saw 138 students undertake eight-week internships across 12 sectors, working on live projects in finance, space technology, research and consumer industries.

The first batch of second-year students at BITS Design School has completed eight-week industry internships under the BITS Pilani Practice School programme, with 138 students working across 85 organisations in 12 sectors.
The internships formed part of Practice School–I, a credit-bearing component of the B.Des Hons. programme. Students worked on live projects under academic and industry mentorship, applying areas of study such as design thinking, user research, visual communication and product strategy to professional assignments.

The participating organisations covered sectors including financial services, space technology, scientific research and consumer industries. At the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub, students were involved in platform, dashboard, and design system development for initiatives including Pratirupa.
At the National Centre for Polar & Ocean Research, students worked on the design of a polar data portal aligned with SCAR-SCADAM standards. In the space sector, students at Dhruva Space and Apollyon Dynamics worked on visual identity, design systems and positioning.
Other organisations that hosted students included HDFC Bank, Nokia, Tata Elxsi, Havells, Aditya Birla Group, Reliance Industries, McCann, Leo Burnett and Fractal Analytics.
The internships were conducted across 16 cities in 10 states, with students placed across five design pathways: Digital Product Design, Design Research & Insights, Visual Design, Physical Product Design and Experiential Design.
According to the school, Practice School–I is the first of two industry internships incorporated into the B.Des Hons. curriculum through the BITS Pilani Practice School programme. Students can undertake a second, 22-week Practice School–II internship during their final year.
The BITS Pilani Practice School programme has operated for more than five decades and is designed to integrate structured industry experience with academic learning. Under the programme, internships form a credit-bearing part of the undergraduate curriculum.
