The University recorded strong results in key research indicators, including research publications per faculty member and citations. It also earned recognition for the qualifications of its academic staff, its international faculty and the high proportion of professors holding doctoral degrees.

Global recognition strengthens university’s standing

The latest regional ranking builds on Khalifa University’s performance in international assessments. The institution climbed to 147th place in the QS World University Rankings 2027 and ranked sixth globally in Petroleum Engineering in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026.

These achievements underscore the university’s growing international profile, particularly in scientific and engineering disciplines that support the UAE’s development priorities.

Research and innovation at the core

Khalifa University President Professor Ebrahim Al Hajri said the improvement in the regional rankings reflected sustained investment in research, academic talent and international partnerships.

“Khalifa University’s rise to second place in the Arab region reflects the research strength, talent and international partnerships we are building in the UAE and beyond,” he said.

Al Hajri said the university’s ambitions extend beyond academic recognition, with a broader focus on advancing scientific research, developing new technologies and supporting national industries.

The university aims to translate research and innovation into practical outcomes that strengthen the UAE’s economy and support its long-term development goals.

How universities are assessed

The QS Arab Region University Rankings evaluates institutions across 20 locations in the region, using indicators covering academic reputation, employer reputation, research performance, teaching environment and international cooperation.

The assessment also considers research output and citations, alongside the qualifications and diversity of academic staff.

Khalifa University said its latest ranking reflected its continued commitment to strengthening higher education and research while contributing to the UAE’s ambition to become a leading global centre for science, technology and innovation.
