IMD has issued an orange alert in the Delhi-NCR from June 11 to 13.
After a few days of respite from intense heat conditions in Delhi-NCR, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued ‘orange alert’ for the region in the coming days with maximum temperature rising to 47 degree Celsius.
The weather body has issued an orange alert in the NCR from June 11 to 13.
The maximum temperature mark in Delhi on June 10 crossed the 43.4 degree Celsius mark, 3.5 notches above the season’s average, for the second consecutive day as several other nearby areas experienced heatwaves-like conditions.
Some areas recorded temperature up to 46 degree Celsius with Narela being the hottest at 46.6 degree Celsius.
The IMD said Delhi will be on yellow alert for June 14 given the potential heatwaves-like conditions.
The weather body has predicted mainly clear skies with heatwave conditions and gusty winds at speeds ranging from 25 to 35 km per hour during the day on June 11.
The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to reach 44 and 30 degree Celsius, respectively, the department said.
The return of heatwaves in Parts of Delhi and National Capital region (NCR) is due to the impact of a prevailing western disturbance reducing in northwest India and return of the dry westerly winds.
The IMD classifies heatwave when the maximum temperature is over 40°C in the plains, and is 4.5°C or more above normal.
