Just after 40 minutes of take-off from Kathmandu, the plane was hijacked and flown to Amritsar. It was then flown to Lahore for re-fueling and left for Dubai before finally arriving at Taliban-controlled Kandahar, where all the passengers were released on December 31, 2000.
