Netflix has announced a series on December 24, 1999 hijack of Indian Airlines Flight with Anubhav Sinha as its creator-director.
The show titled "IC 814: The Kandhar Hijack" will star Dia Mirza, Vijay Varma, Manoj Pahwa, Patralekha, Naseeruddin Shah, Arvind Swamy, Pankaj Kapur, Kumud Mishra, Amrita Puri, and Anupam Tripathi.
The makers said that the series revolves around the hijacking of the Indian Airlines flight IC 814 on 24th December 1999 which was on its way to New Delhi from Kathmandu.
The longest hijack in the Indian aviation history lasted seven days after the aircraft carrying about 180 passengers was taken hostage by five terrorists.
Just after 40 minutes of take-off from Kathmandu, the plane was hijacked and flown to Amritsar. It was then flown to Lahore for re-fueling and left for Dubai before finally arriving at Taliban-controlled Kandahar, where all the passengers were released on December 31, 2000.
The release date for IC814: The Kandahar Hijack has not been announced yet.
Talking about the project at a Netflix event, Anubhav Sinha, known for his direction prowess, said that it’s a story that created unexpected heroes out of the most unprecedented crises. This is a story of those seven days of mayhem, skill, and tact.
