The sneak-peek into the series have upped the anticipation manifolds as Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar seems to be even more opulent and grand than his previous directorial ventures.
The Netflix original has an impressive ensemble cast with Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh being the prominent characters.
Fardeen Khan is also part of the series and has made a comeback after 14 years. Fardeen plays Wali Mohammed, a ‘nawab’ (lord) ‘caught in a whirlwind struggle of love and duty.’
Watch the trailer:
Talking about his return to the screen after 14 long years, Fardeen said, “At the series’ trailer launch, the actor said, “Firstly, it's been a very long gap for me. It's been almost about 14 years, to say the least. I'm extremely grateful for this opportunity to work with this stellar star cast and a platform like Netflix and the man himself, Sanjay Leela Bhansali. I couldn't have hoped for a better opportunity as an actor to return to the screen.”
The film also stars Shekhar Suman and his son Adhyayan Suman.
The series is set in a pre-independence India where the ‘courtesans’ hold a lot of power over the ‘nawabs’ who visit them.

Bhansali who is known for his films like Gangubai Kathiawadi, Padmaavat, Bajirao Mastani and Ram Leela has directed his first web series.
Talking about the story, "Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar's” story revolves around Mallikajaan (Manisha Koirala) who runs the house of courtesans. But when her arch-rival's daughter returns, tensions starts to brew between the two leading to division in the courtesans house.
In the backdrop, there is a plot of freedom fight where Bibbojaan played by Aditi Rao Hydari (who is one of Mallika Jaan's daughters) joins the freedom movement.
