Kannada actor-producer Dileep Raj died after suffering a heart attack in the early hours of Wednesday. He was 47.
Raj suffered a massive cardiac arrest and was rushed to Apollo Hospital in Bengaluru, where doctors made several attempts to revive him, according to reports. He could not be saved.

His sudden death has sent shockwaves through the Kannada film industry, with actors, colleagues and fans mourning the loss of a performer widely admired for his versatility and warmth.
Actor Chetan Kumar was among the first to pay tribute. In a post on X, he wrote, “Deeply saddened by passing of gifted artist Dileep Raj at age of 47. I worked directly with Mr Raj in 2009 during our song shooting in Goa; he was creative, kind and cool. I’m especially thankful to him for giving life to my characters as a dubbing artist. He will be fondly remembered.”
Fans also flooded social media with emotional messages. Many described his death as an irreplaceable loss to Kannada cinema, remembering him for the memorable characters he brought to life over the years.
From stage to screen
Born on September 2, 1978, Dileep Raj built a long and respected career in the Kannada entertainment industry, working across theatre, television, films and production. Before becoming a familiar face on screen, he earned recognition through his strong association with theatre and stage performances.
He was recently seen in Mocktail 3, where his nuanced performance and striking new look drew praise from audiences. He was also widely known for his work in popular television serials such as Kambada Mane and Janani.
His contribution to Kannada cinema and television remains deeply cherished by colleagues and fans alike.
