Govinda recovering in hospital after accidental gunshot wound to knee
Actor Govinda and Shiv Sena leader was shot accidentally at home in Mumbai on Oct 1. He was brought to the hospital and is now in stable condition.
The accident occurred at 4:45 am, while he was preparing for a trip to Kolkata. The 60-year-old Govinda was admitted to the Criticare Hospital's intensive care unit. He suffered a bullet wound to his knee.
Shashi Sinha, Govinda's manager, said that he was getting ready to leave for Kolkata. His revolver dropped from his grip, and a bullet was accidentally fired.
“He is out of danger and doing well. He was about to leave for Kolkata when the incident occurred. He was keeping his licensed revolver properly in the almirah when it fell on the ground. While handling the weapon, the bullet accidentally shot,” said the manager.
“The injury is below the left knee. The bullet has now been removed. His daughter Tina is present at the hospital. He is talking to everyone and is doing alright,” he added.
In an audio statement issued to the media by Shiv Sena leader Krishna Hegde, Govinda thanked his supporters.
Govinda said, “Namaste, pranam. I am Govinda. Due to your blessings, my parents’ blessings, and the grace of my guru... I was shot, but the bullet has been removed. I thank the doctors here, especially Dr. Garwal. Thank you all for your prayers and support.”
Govinda's daughter, Tina Ahuja, said that the actor underwent surgery and the bullet was removed. She said that the actor will be kept in the ICU for a day before doctors decide on his health.
Sunita Ahuja, Govinda's wife, was traveling at the time and raced back to be with him.
