Delay in CUET results may impact university academic calendars, with NTA promising an announcement soon amidst ongoing scrutiny of NEET and NET exams.
UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar
The University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman, M. Jagadesh Kumar, said on July 3 that the date for announcing the results of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG would be disclosed shortly.
Initially scheduled for release by June 30, the results of this test, which serves as a gateway for admission to undergraduate courses, have yet to be updated by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The delay in announcing the CUET results could potentially disrupt university academic calendars. "NTA is actively working on the CUET results and will announce a date soon," stated the UGC chairman.
This delay occurs amidst controversy over alleged irregularities in competitive exams, including National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and National Eligibility Test (NET).
The CUET, conducted in a hybrid mode for the first time, faced cancellation in Delhi the night before the exam due to logistical reasons.
Subsequently, it was rescheduled and conducted in the national capital.
The NTA had previously announced that the third edition of CUET-UG would be completed within seven days, with no score normalization required, as all exams would be conducted in a single shift.
While 15 subjects were tested in pen-paper mode, the remaining 48 subjects underwent computer-based testing.
This year, over 13.4 lakh candidates registered for the common entrance test across 261 central, state, deemed, and private universities.
In the inaugural 2022 edition of the exam, technical glitches necessitated score normalization due to multiple shifts during testing.
Amid allegations of irregularities in the medical entrance exam NEET and the PhD entrance NET, the Centre recently removed NTA Director General Subodh Singh.
A high-level panel, led by former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief R. Radhakrishnan, was appointed to ensure transparent, smooth, and fair conduct of examinations through the NTA.
The NEET exam faces scrutiny due to several alleged irregularities, including a paper leak. Meanwhile, the UGC-NET was canceled following concerns about the exam's integrity, and both matters are currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Additionally, as a precautionary measure, two other exams—CSIR-UGC NET and NEET-PG—were also canceled.
The CUET (UG), initially planned for May 15, was rescheduled to May 29 (only in Delhi) due to "unavoidable reasons," as indicated in a public notification by the NTA. This development affected nearly 146,000 students.
