Ten government schools in Nagaland to be upgraded under PM SHRI scheme

Ten government schools across Nagaland will be upgraded as part of the PM SHRI scheme, while 23 new hostels are set to be constructed to support tribal students from remote regions.

The announcement was made by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan during a program in New Delhi marking five years of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Each of the ten selected schools, one from every district in the state, will be developed into model institutions aligned with the NEP’s vision.

These schools are among the 14,500 identified nationwide under the PM SHRI (Schools for Rising India) initiative aimed at turning government schools into centers of academic excellence.

“These schools will serve as model institutions under the nationwide network of 14,500 PM SHRI schools, envisioned to enhance quality education through improved infrastructure, digital learning, teacher training, and student-centric pedagogies,” a statement said.

Alongside the PM SHRI announcement, foundation stones were laid for 23 hostels to be developed under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA), a national initiative focused on the upliftment of tribal communities.

DAJGUA, launched on Oct 2, 2024, takes a multi-sectoral approach, targeting improvements in education, healthcare, livelihoods, and infrastructure in tribal areas.

The new hostels in Nagaland fall under the education component of the scheme.

“Under the education component of this initiative, the Ministry of Education, through Samagra Shiksha, is constructing 1,000 new hostels nationwide to benefit tribal students,” the statement said.

The hostels aim to offer safe and inclusive residential facilities, improve school retention rates, and reduce barriers to education for tribal children living in geographically isolated areas.
