A mother’s appeal on Sharjah Radio’s Direct Line programme led to an intervention by the emirate’s Ruler, who ordered a scholarship for her daughter’s remaining 18 months at the University of Sharjah.

The Ruler of Sharjah has directed that a student at the University of Sharjah be granted a scholarship covering the remaining 18 months of her studies after her mother sought help during a live radio broadcast.
Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, intervened after hearing the mother’s appeal on Direct Line, a programme broadcast by Sharjah Radio and Television, according to Gulf News, citing a report in Al Khaleej.

The programme is hosted by Mohammed Khalaf, Director-General of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority.
Sponsorship ended after father’s citizenship was withdrawn
The caller, identified as “Umm Maryam”, said she was an Emirati woman married to a Kuwaiti man. Their daughter had been studying at the University of Sharjah under an educational sponsorship arrangement.
According to the mother’s account, the sponsorship ended after her husband’s citizenship was withdrawn, putting her daughter’s ability to complete her degree at risk.
The mother had only begun explaining the situation when Khalaf informed her that Sheikh Sultan, who had been listening to the programme, had already issued instructions for the student to receive a university scholarship for the remaining 18 months of her studies.
The scholarship will cover the remainder of the student’s degree, according to the report.
