The Directorate of School Education Kashmir has revised school hours across the Kashmir Valley as temperatures fall, with different reporting and closing times for Srinagar and other areas.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has revised school timings across the Kashmir Valley in response to changing weather conditions and the onset of colder mornings. Under the new schedule, schools will begin classes at 10 am or 10:30 am, depending on their location.
According to reports published by PTI and other news organisations, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has issued an order specifying separate timings for schools within Srinagar's municipal limits and those operating outside the city limits.

The revised school timings, effective from October 15, are as follows:
Schools within Srinagar Municipal Corporation limits: 10 am to 3:30 pm.
Schools outside Srinagar municipal limits and in other districts of the Kashmir Valley: 10:30 am to 4 pm.
The revised schedule means students attending schools outside Srinagar's municipal boundaries will start classes 30 minutes later than those within the city limits.
The decision comes as the Kashmir Valley experiences colder mornings and shorter daylight hours. Recent weather conditions have included snowfall in higher-altitude areas and rainfall across the plains, adding to the seasonal chill.
The adjustment is intended to accommodate the changing weather conditions by allowing students to reach school later in the morning.
The change in school hours should not be confused with the announcement of winter vacations. The revised schedule concerns daily school operations; it does not, by itself, establish the dates for the winter break.
Students and parents should follow official announcements from the Directorate of School Education Kashmir and their respective schools for confirmed winter vacation dates and any further changes to the academic calendar.
Students, parents and school staff should check which municipal or district jurisdiction their school falls under before following the revised timetable. Schools are expected to comply with the timings specified in the education department's order.
For the latest updates, families should refer to official communications from the Directorate of School Education Kashmir and their schools.
