Rajasthan to make singing ‘Vande Mataram’ mandatory in all govt schools

The Rajasthan government has directed that the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ be sung daily across all state-run offices, schools, colleges, and madrasas.

The move coincides with the 150th anniversary of the song on Nov 7, which the state will commemorate by observing the entire year as the ‘Year of Patriotism.’

Education Minister Madan Dilawar said the order applies to all institutions under the state government.

He highlighted that the national song holds a special place in India’s cultural identity.

“‘Vande Mataram’ is not just a song but the soul of India, which inspires a deep sense of patriotism in every citizen,” Dilawar said.

Meanwhile, the state’s education department is set to intensify efforts to merge schools with low student strength.

Dilawar said 449 schools have already been merged this year, and another 312 will be consolidated next year.

These include 155 higher secondary schools with fewer than 25 students and 157 primary schools with five or fewer enrollments.

He added that the decision follows two years of monitoring enrollment data. Schools that have not shown improvement will be merged with nearby institutions to ensure students have access to education without traveling long distances.

“The survey is ongoing, and the process will be completed by the beginning of next year,” Dilawar said.
