Sixteen students have been suspended by Allahabad University following an anti-ragging probe, with directives to vacate the hostel and appear with parents or guardians for a disciplinary inquiry on Oct 30.
Allahabad University has suspended 16 students following their alleged involvement in a ragging incident, university officials confirmed. Show-cause notices have also been issued to the students.
An order from Proctor Prof Rakesh Singh stated that the university’s anti-ragging squad carried out a surprise inspection of Sir Sunderlal Hostel on Oct 9 after receiving a complaint.
The inspection reportedly found several students prima facie engaged in ragging.
A disciplinary committee formed to investigate the incident recommended action against 16 students.
Acting on this recommendation, the university suspended the students immediately and ordered their removal from the hostel.
The proctor has instructed the suspended students to appear before the inquiry committee on Oct 30, accompanied by their parents or guardians with valid identification, to provide a written explanation.
