India's education system sees significant advancements over the past decade, with improved learning quality, infrastructure, and digital inclusion.
On the eve of the 76th Republic Day, Jan 25, President Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation, emphasizing the significant changes in the country's education system over the past decade, particularly in learning quality, infrastructure, and digital inclusion.
“The government's increased investment and efforts in the education sector have yielded more than promising outcomes,” she added.
“It is, after all, our young generation that is going to shape the India of tomorrow. Education, in turn, shapes these young minds. Therefore, the government has increased its investment in education and made every effort to improve every parameter related to this sector. The results so far are more than encouraging,” she said.
Murmu added that India has been making strides in many areas of knowledge, including science and technology, thanks to a firmer foundation in school-level education.
“For example, India stands sixth in terms of intellectual property filings in the world. We have consistently improved our ranking in the Global Innovation Index, moving from 48th position in 2020 to 39th in 2024,” said Murmu.
“The last decade has transformed education in terms of quality of learning, physical infrastructure, and digital inclusion. For the medium of instruction, the regional languages are promoted at more levels. It is not surprising that there has been a notable improvement in students’ performance," she added.
The Department of School Education & Literacy received ₹73,498 crore from the Modi government in 2024, a 19.56% increase from the year before.
Additionally, the budget provided record funding of ₹9,302 crore and ₹5,800 crore for Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVS), respectively.
