In Jammu and Kashmir, the annual MBBS intake at GMC Srinagar will increase from 200 to 250 seats beginning with the 2026-27 academic session.

According to an official spokesperson, the Health and Medical Education Department received the National Medical Commission's approval to increase the college's intake capacity, a move aimed at strengthening medical education and healthcare services in the Union Territory.

The spokesperson said the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the NMC issued the Letter of Permission under Section 28(3) of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, permitting the addition of 50 MBBS seats.

The official also noted that GMC Srinagar had received approval for 20 additional MBBS seats last year. The latest increase follows an assessment conducted by MARB under the Undergraduate Medical Education Standards Regulations (UGMSR), 2023.

"The increase in the seats has further strengthened GMC Srinagar's position as one of the premier medical colleges in the country," the spokesperson said.

In Andhra Pradesh, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav announced that the NMC has sanctioned 100 additional MBBS seats for two government medical colleges.

According to the state government, Kadapa Government Medical College has been allotted 75 new seats, while Nellore ACSR Government Medical College has received 25 additional seats.

"NMC issued the letter of permission for increasing MBBS seats by 75 in Kadapa Government Medical College and 25 in Nellore ACSR Government Medical College for the academic year 2026-27,"said Yadav.

Following the increase, the total intake at Kadapa Government Medical College will rise from 175 to 250 seats, while Nellore ACSR Government Medical College will increase its MBBS capacity from 175 to 200 seats.
