The approvals will allow students in the two districts to pursue medical education locally while expanding regional access to doctors and specialized healthcare services.

Bihar is set to get two new medical colleges after the National Medical Commission (NMC) granted Letters of Permission (LoPs) to Government Medical College, Chhapra (Saran), and Ram Janki Medical College and Hospital, Samastipur.
The two institutions have been approved to begin MBBS admissions from the 2026-27 academic session, with 50 seats available at each college. The approvals are expected to expand access to medical education and strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the state.

Applications for both colleges had earlier been submitted to the NMC's Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) seeking approval for 100 MBBS seats each. The regulator has now cleared an annual intake of 50 students per institution.
"This decision is an important step towards expanding medical education in Bihar, strengthening healthcare facilities, and creating new opportunities for the youth," CM Samrat Chaudhary said.
The launch of MBBS programs at the two institutions will give students from Samastipur and Chhapra districts an opportunity to pursue medical education closer to their homes.
The new colleges are also expected to strengthen the availability of doctors in the respective regions, potentially improving access to specialized medical care and treatment for local residents.
The approvals mark an expansion of Bihar's medical education network, with further increases in MBBS seats expected as the institutions develop their academic and healthcare facilities.
