Dr Ashokkumar Veeramuthu’s research in sustainable waste management, renewable energy, and practical scientific solutions earns global recognition, highlighting India’s growing presence in international scientific innovation and applied research networks.
A scientist from the Nilgiris, Dr Ashokkumar Veeramuthu, has once again earned a spot among the World’s Top Scientists, according to a ranking jointly released by Stanford University, USA, and Elsevier Publishers.
This is his third consecutive appearance, following 2023 and 2024, underscoring his sustained impact in research that bridges science and society.
Dr Ashokkumar’s work focuses on practical solutions for environmental protection, human health, and sustainable development.
His projects include developing microalgae-based clean fuels, converting plastic waste into reusable materials, and designing waste management systems that can be implemented across different regions and economies.
He was also awarded the “Brain Pool: Visiting Global Scientist Award” by the National Research Foundation of Korea, recognizing his contributions to applied and sustainable research globally.
A product of government schools in the Nilgiris, Dr Ashokkumar’s journey highlights how consistent effort and a focus on real-world problems can lead to global recognition.
“From a small town to the global stage, persistent research can turn regional challenges into global contributions,” said a spokesperson familiar with his work.
He has authored more than 130 research papers in top international journals and maintains collaborations with 18 universities worldwide, linking academic research with practical innovation.
He currently serves as professor and head at the Centre for Waste Management and Renewable Energy, Saveetha University (SIMATS), Chennai.
In addition, Dr Ashokkumar holds visiting professorships at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, University Technology Malaysia, and several leading Korean universities.
These partnerships support joint research in waste recovery and renewable energy, strengthening India’s presence in the Asian research network.
Experts note that his continued recognition by Stanford University highlights not only his personal achievements but also the expanding global reach of Indian science.
