Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education

In a significant move aimed at reducing academic loss among students, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has reopened the registration window for private candidates appearing in the SSC and HSC examinations scheduled for July-August 2025.

This initiative offers a lifeline to students who missed the earlier February-March enrolment deadline.

“For private students, only the February enrollment has been considered so far for the March exams,” reads the official notice from the Board. “However, many eligible candidates fail to complete their applications on time, resulting in an entire academic year being wasted.”

Addressing this long-standing concern, the Board will now, for the first time, allow private enrolment for the July-August supplementary session, enabling students to appear for their Class 10 (SSC) and Class 12 (HSC) exams within the same academic year.

Registration timeline & process

The online application process begins April 15 and will remain open until May 15, 2025. Eligible candidates must complete Form No. 17 on the official website — mahahsscboard.in — and submit the following documents to the designated school or junior college:

  • Printout of the filled online form
  • Fee acknowledgment receipt
  • Original supporting documents

Students who have cleared Class 5 or Class 8 via the Maharashtra State Open School Board are also eligible to register for the SSC examination under the private candidate category.

Upon successful registration, candidates will be issued a digital registration certificate, after which they can proceed with the exam form submission and payment process.

Institutions advised to assist

“All schools and junior colleges offering provisions for private candidates must comply with the Board’s guidelines. Students and institutions are encouraged to contact their respective divisional board offices for clarification or support,” the Board stated in its circular.

The Board has also made detailed instructions, eligibility norms, and rulebooks available on its website and urged both students and educational institutions to thoroughly review the guidelines to ensure seamless enrolment.

This move is expected to bring much-needed flexibility and academic continuity to private students, offering them a timely second opportunity to appear for their board exams without waiting another year.
